Sustainability and green

The conversion of a worthless industrial site into an attractive waterfront residential area represents a boost for the entire area.

At the same time as undertaking an urban regeneration project, we have endeavored to conserve historical sites and fishing operations together with the municipality and other contractors. For example, the fish-smoking house is still there and each morning the fishermen go out to sea and return with the catch of the day to the fish shop and the area’s restaurants.

“The Å district in Lomma Harbor features different types of buildings – there is a variation in the area that also creates a cohesive impression. This variation is positive for us working in the area, since it is exciting and provides challenges. At the same time, the variation in the finished result is something to be proud of,” comments Bo Hansson, Project Manager.

Extensive earthworks and heavy materials

The earthworks were certified in accordance with the new UK environmental rating system CEEQUAL, which was launched in 2011 and is applied to roads and civil engineering projects. With the certification of the Å district in Lomma harbor, Skanska became the first international company to eco-certify a road and civil engineering project.

The project is a Green Workplace, which is Skanska’s own ecolabeling system involving, for example, more efficient energy consumption, recycling of construction material at the worksite, sorting at source and the use of eco-friendly material.

All products are checked against Skanska’s chemicals database, helping to ensure that we always use eco-friendly alternatives where possible.

Energy-saving buildings

Aside from the ability of the concrete walls to withstand the forces of nature, they also provide a constant and comfortable indoor climate.

The houses under construction in Lomma Harbor consume small amounts of energy, which is good for the environment and results in lower energy costs for the residents. The buildings have extra insulation, are airtight and feature energy-efficient windows. Locally produced district heating is used. Heat is recovered by using outgoing exhaust air to heat the incoming fresh air.

It should be easy for the resident of the Å district to live in an environmentally friendly manner. We have thought of everything from sorting at source in closely located eco-centers to energy-saving appliances.
